This is going to be a one-time post for clarification. I am open to suggestions for better terms to use but I want to be very clear that this is not a forum to discuss SAHM vs. WOHM (stay at home vs. work outside the home). Honestly, I am not crazy about the term “working mom.” All moms work. Often, I work much harder and am much more busy on the days I am at home all day. Again, let me be clear…we are not here to compare who has the harder job or who works harder. Many of my dearest, closest friends are stay at home mamas.
I do tend to use the term working mom because I don’t know what else to use nor do I want to get caught up in a word battle. If I do not take your suggestion, it is probably because I don’t want to debate or offend anyone. For all intensive purposes, if you see the term “working mom” it is simply to describe moms that have jobs, typically outside of the home. As I mentioned before, this is place for anyone that considers themselves a working mom. It is not about going above and beyond…it is simply to support each other as we balance multiple jobs.
On the other hand, I think some moms are offended by saying SAHM. I think homemaker is commonly accepted. Again, no offense is intended if a preferred term is not used. I know that you do more than stay at home all day!
