I love to read other blogs. I easily have over 1000+ posts in a week’s time between cloth diaper blogs, healthy eating, mommy blogs, coupon blogs, techie blogs, and fun blogs (I feel like The Pioneer Woman should be my aunt!). One of the blogs that many of my SAHM friends read is Passionate Homemaking. I cannot always identify with everything she writes, but a recent post really grabbed me. It applies to stay at home mom mothers, working mothers, single mothers, older mothers. We all question what God has in store for us and “what-if.” Here is a short excerpt from The Heavenly Work Before Me:
The Lord has been gently working on my heart as I am currently mediating through Ephesians 5:15-17, “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
What does God have for you? I’ve found that what God desires me to embrace is often right in front of me. It’s not way out there. It’s these little hands and feet He has called me to nurture. It’s this strong man that He has called me to support, cheer on, and follow. The will of the Lord is for me is to delight in, to embrace where He has me right now. When I doubt that, I am walking foolishly. I’m mocking his plan.
Reread that! When we doubt where God has us we are mocking His plan!! We may feel discontent. We may wonder what could have been, but we are not embracing what God has given us…foolishly!
Please allow me to tread lightly. I struggle to this day, to this hour, with being a working mom, but it really changed my way of thinking to read that a very different blogger with a very well-followed blog had very similar struggles. A stay at home mom I have always felt so different, so jealous, but this post really shaped my perspective.
It’s not about whether you got a professional degree, or had kids after advancing your career, or make more money than your husband…or whether you change diapers and clean spit-up all day. It is about doing the Heavenly Work that God has called you to do.
A very dear friend of mine told me years ago that God had me where he wanted me. Unfortunately, it has also taken me years for that to sink it. Don’t let it take that long for you!! Realize that God is using you, right now, right here! He has you where He wants you, following His will.
