Is reading part of your bedtime routine? I think most parents start out including it in the routine, but I have several friends that have dropped it or skipped it to avoid battles or to shorten the routine. There were definitely nights we shortened it or kept tight control of the choice of book, but I think it is very important to keep it in the routine. It is a privilege, but it has become such a favorite time for everyone that it is held in high regard and hardly ever abused! Bedtime is not the only time we read, but as a working mom it is one of the most protected and cherished times we share. I love listening to my children “read” as they memorize books, and now it is one of their favorite activities ever.
