We recently did a little living room makeover in our home and one factor that we considered was toy storage. I wanted to keep some toys in the living room for our son, Duke, to play with. But I also didn’t want it to look like a Babies R Us exploded in there. After a few weeks of work, here’s what we came up with:
We’re still using the bottom couple of shelves on our bookshelf for some toys that we know he typically wants to play with. With our new piece under the TV, we were able to store even more toys in the bottom two drawers. But other than that, we wanted our living room free of toy clutter. It’s worked out really well and it’s definitely been maintainable.
The problem is now our son’s room. That’s where the rest of the toys live. We have a pretty large toy chest in there, but it’s not very practical since pulling everything out is kind of a game for Duke.
What I’ve really been wanting for his room is more of a system with bins or crates. Here are some of the ideas I’m liking right now:
// the good life //
// houzz //
// a la mode //
// chic tip //
Because I really want whatever we choose to last us several years, it’s been hard for me to settle on one idea. I want to choose something that will be easy for Duke to use and will also look neat and clean.
What advice do you guys have to offer on toy storage? What kind of storage seems to be the most practical and easiest to keep up with for both you and your kids? Any tips are appreciated!
