Maureen’s post today goes very well with Valerie’s post yesterday. Valerie talked about training children when they’re young, and Maureen writes about some of the biggest pitfalls while teaching obedience. My favorite quote from her post about training up a child is:
They should know what to expect; and they should expect that we will follow through every time. Have a plan and be consistent.
This goes hand and hand with how my husband and I parent. It is extremely important to have a plan and be on the same page with my husband as a working mom. God has blessed me with such a wonderful man, and he expects first-time obedience as much or more than I. It is also extremely tempting to let behavior slide or use exhaustion as an excuse to let obedience slide a little after a long day at work. Maureen gives some wonderful pointers about how to avoid these temptations and covers everything from threatening, bribing, and negotiating. Like Maureen says, we never aim to make obedience an option but it is so much easier than we’d like to admit…even when we’re on the same page.
